SA-400  Bluewater Strategies

Geared towards the serious Big Game Fisherman, this comprehensive course is designed to increase your pelagic results and allow the novice to land their first billfish or other blue water pelagic species.

Topics include planning long range fishing trips,  weather and sea condition forecasts and stressing the importance of Satellite Imagery Services.  The student will better understand sea-surface temperature variables, current flow patterns and altimetry information in order to target specific Nutrient-Rich areas, resulting in reduced fuel burn.

Big-Game lure and bait selection make up the majority of this comprehensive class.  Students will learn how to properly choose, maintain, and re-skirt lures,  and  properly crimp lures, hook-sets and swivels into place.  Line to leader connections will also be covered and include the importance of tying a proper Bimini Twist and attaching Wind-On Leaders.

Ballyhoo and strip-bait rigging is an important portion of this course.  The use of teasers, dredges and other fish attractant strategies are covered in detail. Students will rig numerous baits in this session, perfecting their skills.

Students will also learn the proper techniques for setting drags on big game reels and other methods for applying the proper amount of drag to a large fish, from the initial strike, all the way through to the release.

Tackle selection, to include rods, reels, line, wiring gloves, release knives and other finite details are thoroughly explained.

Upon course completion, the student will be better versed at the art of targeting big game fish such as Tuna, Dolphin, Wahoo, Sailfish and all billfish species.  A clear understanding of satellite imagery services and terminology will be enjoyed, along with appropriate interpretation of obtained data.

Students will appreciate the importance of and be able to demonstrate proper bait rigging techniques, in conjunction with proper lure and bait selections under specific conditions.  Those working in the cockpit will have a true command of fish fighting dynamics, wiring and release methods to ensure safety for all onboard and a healthy release of the fish.
