Tarpon success

Great day Sunday morning fishing tarpon off the beach. Joining me was Captn Glen Ballinger and Harbor Lights resident ,also from Rochester NY, Dominic DeMarco. Dominic has had a lifetime wish to catch his 1st tarpon and Sunday was it. Pics show his 90/100#  trophy hooked on a large pinfish. We almost had a double as Glen hooked another in the pod on a blue crab but got off.

Dominic, an avid experienced fisherman for sure, did a masterful job only exclaiming at one point ” gee these guys are strong”.

By the way, for those who have been to or are contemplating Captn Deiter’s ” Tarpon Tactics ” seminar DO IT.

This was textbook performance as these fish were not greyhounding” but in a slow daisy chain feeding mood. We saw

them first about 1000 yards north and heading south. I set up on a best guess intercepting drift and they surfaced again in easy casting distance. Patience paid off as they were quick to pick our offerings.

Tarpon tactics worked !

My NY buddies came down albeit a little early for the beach tarpon as the nasty cold front  stalled the migration. Best we could do is a day out deep fishing red grouper and whatever. The attached photo shows the 9′ -10′  hammerhead surprise in 85′ of water. No surprise the Seaguar leader finally gave up.

Fun fishing ….CaptnJim

Nice grouper

Spent Saturday and Sunday with my Utica  NY buddies aboard Fait Accompli. We were on the mid reefs( 45′ + or – ) in an agitated  sea but not too uncomfortable.

Many odds and ends caught on shrimp, cut bait and spanish sardines that were eager to jump on the sabikis.

Attached is the best of the day but too bad it wasn’t dinner fare.

Besides the usual exercise of hookups with goliath groupers ( we suspect) Sat we had three incidents of reel screamers picking up our live bait offerings only to have the throw the hooks. Need more education from our leader I supect.

Custom Fabrication

Hi all, I just had a custom made leaning post made and installed on my Polar 2010 Bay by Hot Tops Marine. While they are located a little distance in No Fort Meyers, their work was spot on and very reasonable. Contact me if you wish to see their work and to contact them.
