John Donohue

John Donohue

“JD” is our Senior Kayak and Beach Fishing Instructor and one of only ten members in the United States that make up the Hobie Kayaks Regional Pro Fishing Team. He is also a proud member of Accent Paddles, TFO Fishing Rods and Hobie Polarized Pro Staff.

He authors the monthly “No Motor Required” column featured in Coastal Angler Magazine, and is a correspondent for the Sarasota Herald Tribune as well as other programs.

JD has enjoyed the spotlight in numerous other commentaries in both print and television media outlets. JD is a retired Semi-pro hockey player of more than 25 years and is an avid snook fisherman- stalking beaches for linesiders early in the mornings.

Although John has enjoyed fishing tournament success, he better appreciates the more relaxed kayak experience and passing along his passion of kayak fishing to others, especially those new to the sport. JD has been fishing the waters of Southwest Florida for more than a decade and possesses an intimate knowledge of southwest Florida’s premier kayaking locations.

JD’s experience, attention to finite detail and an unmatched passion for this sport are what set him apart from anyone else in this venue. His professionalism and teaching methodology are a testament to why he occupies this position with the Feeding Frenzy Sportfishing Academy.

JD teaches several kayak courses that range from beginner’s workshops, up to comprehensive, in-depth courses designed for the more advanced kayaker looking to elevate their skills to the next level. JD’s specialties include stalking flats for tailing Redfish and targeting Snook on the beaches, which are both “Do Not Miss” Academy Courses.
